BIO:
Cellist Michael Cameron has been an active performer and music educator for the past three decades, a career that has taken him across the United States. Mr. Cameron received his first Master of Music degree from Northwestern University (Evanston, IL). He later studied cello and chamber music at The Eastman School of Music before receiving his second M.M. from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. He has performed with the Maryland, York and Pan-American Symphony Orchestras. He was the cellist of the acclaimed Marian Anderson String Quartet when they won the International Cleveland Quartet Competition in 1991, becoming the first African American ensemble in history to ever win a major classical music competition. He is currently Visiting Artist (Cello) as well as Coordinator of Chamber Music at Dickinson College, serves as an Affiliate Artist (Cello) at Bucknell University and provides cello lessons at the Cumberland Valley School of Music. Mr. Cameron is also the Director of the Mercersburg Academy String Ensemble and Orchestra Conductor at the Susquehanna Waldorf School. Prior to settling in central PA, he taught at California State University, Los Angeles, Texas A&M University and Prairie View A&M University. Mr. Cameron has devoted his life to the cause of using music to raise the collective conscience of our country. He teaches cello to all levels and ages, and looks forward to meeting students who are eager to begin or continue their musical journey at KMAC.
