BIO:
After receiving her Master’s in Violin Performance and Pedagogy in 2022, Vera Solomin came back to the Harrisburg area to begin her career as a teacher and performer. In a short period of time, she established herself as one of the area’s finest violinists, a consummate professional in every sense of the word. As a teacher, Vera’s return to the area allowed her to pick up where she left off. Many of the students she taught while attending Messiah University sought her out and have been happy to travel from up to an hour away for weekly lessons with her. She is now ready to expand her studio and looks forward to teaching at KMAC beginning in March 2023. Ms. Solomin’s background is impressive. During her high school years, she was the Associate Concertmaster of the Reading Symphony Youth Orchestra. Then while working on her undergraduate degree, she studied with Peter Sirotin and became Concertmaster of the Messiah University Symphony Orchestra. She also served as concertmaster for musicals at Messiah and Susquehanna Universities. Just before her senior year at Messiah, Vera was awarded the Presser Scholar Award. This is a very prestigious award, as the Presser Foundation’s website points out: Selected by the music faculty, the Award recipient should show a high level of academic and musical accomplishment and embody the qualities of leadership and citizenship. The recipient is one who has grown individually and who has contributed earnestly to the success of the school of music. This Award is an honor and the recipient, in his/her senior year, is to be known as a Presser Scholar. At Ohio University, Ms. Solomin was awarded a Graduate Assistantship and studied violin with Drs. Dawn Wohn and Christine Harada-Li. Once again she earned first chair honors in the school’s orchestra, serving as Concertmaster of the Ohio University Symphony Orchestra during her entire time as a student there. She was also a member of the graduate string group, the Klinder String Quartet, and served as Co-Director of the Cadet Strings Program leading rehearsals and teaching beginner orchestra music to students up to the fourth grade. While a graduate student, she also taught private lessons at the Athens Community Music School. Vera began teaching violin when she was just a high school student, which gives her a decade of private lesson experience. And as her advanced degree in pedagogy suggests, she is highly qualified and focused on providing quality private instruction. Vera has a way of connecting with students of any age and ability in a way that is motivational, productive, and fun. She looks forward to meeting and working with new students and their families at the Keystone Music Academy.
